Princess of Wales Theatre

On Saturday May 26, 2018 – the Princess of Wales Theatre turned a quarter century old. The building opened on the same day in 1993 with the Canadian premiere of MISS SAIGON. Designed by architect Peter Smith, with an interior design by the then up-and-coming design firm Yabu Pushelberg, now world renowned, and featuring artwork by the brilliant Frank Stella, the POW (as it’s known by the staff) was the first privately built, stand-alone theatre in North America in over 50 years.

Sandy Wilson’s all-singing all-dancing love letter to 1920s musical comedies returns for the first major London revival in over 10 years. Set in Madame Dubonnet’s finishing school in the south of France, these perfect young ladies burst into song at the least provocation, and forbidden boy friends are forever popping through the French windows to sing and dance with them. Since its premiere in 1953, this light-hearted soufflé of a show has delighted audiences worldwide and has become one of the most well-loved British musicals of all time.

This pitch-perfect revival of Sandy Wilson’s exuberant period pastiche.THE GUARDIAN

As daft and delightful as a pink meringue, Matthew White and choreographer Bill Deamer’s production is scintillating and sublime. The comedy is knowing but never arch. It’s all terrifically silly and frivolous but, my God, it’s good fun. – THE EVENING STANDARD
