Visit Casa Loma this Summer on Every Night of the Week
Yes, Toronto has a castle. Construction of the Gothic Revival-style mansion started in 1911 for Sir Henry Pellatt in honour of his bride-to-be. Three years and $3.5 million later, Casa Loma stood – complete with secret passageways and battlements, surpassing any private home in North America.
Today, the stunning grounds house permanent installations — the Toronto’s Dark Side photo exhibit and a classic car collection in the stables (which you can access through an 800-acre tunnel) — plus regularly curated displays showcasing Toronto and Canada’s past. Visitors can learn the history while exploring beautifully decorated rooms and the manicured five-acre estate gardens any day of the week.
Starting in June, though, Casa Loma kicks off its summer programming, boasting live music, guest musicians and side-splitting shows on the WestJet stage from Monday to Wednesday in the beautiful Glass Pavilion. Add the totally immersive Escape Rooms and fine-dining at BlueBlood Steakhouse to your Thursday and Friday plans (or any day, really), and a tour of the castle will undoubtedly turn into an unforgettable weeknight out.
Here’s a taste of what’s on offer this summer:

Is there anything more romantic than cocktail-style dining al fresco, listening to moving classical music on the grounds of a castle? Now a signature event, Toronto Concert Orchestra’s summer series, Symphony in the Garden, is going into its sixth season. Lose yourself in the magic of Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky and incredible operatic voices — Sara Papinin, Romulo Delgado and Tonia Cianciulli among them.
Mark your calendars: On Tuesday, June 11, in honour of Italian Heritage Month, the stage will host multi-award-winning Beatrice Venezi, the chief conductor of the Orchestra Scarlatti Young. This event is presented in proud partnership with the IItituto Italiano di Cultura and will be a summer’s night to remember – for any music lover.
