HIGHLIGHTS
Toronto and Montréal Say It's OK to Cheat on Your City
As many of our members will have seen from the extensive media coverage, Tourism Toronto and Tourisme Montréal teamed up to launch a fun on-line and public relations campaign aimed at luring urbanites to venture down the road to each other's city. A first for two competitive Canadian destinations, the campaign had many components including a website and a fleet of eye-catching mobile units set up to videotape "confessions" by Torontonians and Montréalers about their secret desires for the rival city. The three-week long campaign has generated a lot of buzz and coverage by all the main print, radio and television outlets in both cities.

See Toronto Now in Eight Languages
TT recently completed a major upgrade to our website by enhancing the existing sites in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French, Portuguese, and Spanish and adding, for the first time, German. These new sites adapt the content from SeeTorontoNow.com to bring the sites in other languages on par with our main English site. Most importantly, all member pages have been translated in all eight languages, so member information is now available to more customers.

The enhancements were done in order to have a more comprehensive web presence for potential visitors from other countries in line with TT's plan to expand Toronto's presence in key global cities and to provide our members which a much greater online presence.

Mississauga Chosen for Memorial Cup
On May 10, the Ontario Hockey League announced that the Hershey Centre will play host to the Memorial Cup in May 2011. TT's Sports sales team worked closely with the City of Mississauga and the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors to help land the event which will result in 2,500 hotel room nights and visitor spending in the range of $8 million.

Endless Coverage
Destination: Toronto Chic was the title of a recent piece in Endless Vacations magazine. The publication is intended as a travel planning guide and reaches over 1.75 million frequent travellers with the print version and 903,000 unique visitors to its website monthly.

Rendez-Vous With the World
Representatives from our International sales team, along with 43 members, recently attended the Rendez-Vous Canada (RVC) Marketplace held in Winnipeg; May 9-12 for a series of timed business sessions and networking opportunities. Tourism Toronto conducted 140 appointments with clients from the U.K., Europe, China, Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Canada, and the U.S., resulting in 58 leads and member referrals.

In addition to the business sessions, Tourism Toronto co-sponsored a client event for 19 Chinese operators and assisted 30 more clients with pre/post RVC site inspections and product educational fams in Toronto. Overall, operators were positive about advance bookings for 2010 business, however concern about the stability of the Euro and ongoing flight issues due to the Icelandic volcano were noted by the U.K. and European clients.

German Press Trip
In partnership with the OTMP and CTC, TT hosted eight German media from May 24-26. Media outlets include major daily newspapers Bild am Sonntag, Hamburger Abendblatt, Kurier Wien, and Berliner Zeitung.

Tourism Toronto Hosts Latin American Press
TT's Media Relations team welcomed a press tour from Argentina mid-May with Clarin and Capital newspapers in attendance, as well as Cosmopolitan Argentina and Travel Time magazines also on board. As well, a media group from Brazil arrived May 18-21 with UOL Travel (similar to AOL), Top Destinos magazine, Viajar Pelo Mundo magazine, Glamurama.com, Joyce Pascowich Magazine and Correio Popular de Campinas joining. Both groups experienced a range of arts, culture, dining, and nightlife.

Major Mexican Media Coverage
A recent Mexican press tour resulted in great coverage in Reforma, with daily circulation of 153,000 and Elite, Mexicana Airline's inflight magazine, with circulation of 30,000 daily.

WHAT'S NEXT
G20 Briefing for Members
Tourism Toronto and representatives from the Summit Management Office and the City of Toronto will be holding a G20 briefing on Friday, June 11 at 9 a.m. at the Allstream Centre at Exhibition Place. This session is exclusive for Tourism Toronto members and an e-vite will be sent shortly to all the primary contacts at each organization. The briefing will include a summit overview and the media and hospitality initiatives being undertaken by TT and partners.

As with other major events and conventions, we aim to drive business over the week preceding the summit to our members where possible. Please check the business opportunity notices on TT's website for details. Please note that the Shriners Convention follows immediately after the G20 Summit and our welcome and hospitality messages will continue to be in place for this important convention of over 10,000 delegates and spouses.

Volunteers will be playing an important role in extending a warm welcome and directing delegates and media to member businesses. If you know of anyone wishing to volunteer, please direct them to web.volunteer2.com and indicate "Toronto" for the city location. This summit volunteer opportunity is listed as "Tourism Toronto" but we are encouraging anyone interested to volunteer for any of the listed events and programs.

Security is being handled by the summit's Integrated Security Unit and updates about road closures and security perimeters will be available via their website. In addition, the G20 Summit Office has a website where information will be available over the coming weeks.

The Media Relations team is leading two groups of journalists at the end of May. Four journalists from France with media outlets such as Voyages Voyages, daily newspapers Nice Martin and La Voix du Nord (Paris Bureau) and Glamour magazine will experience Toronto's diverse culture, culinary offerings, Doors Open and more.
