The first thing you need to know about Yonge Street is that it’s pronounced “Young.” Centred on the bright and lively Yonge-Dundas Square, this downtown stretch is one of the most vibrant and bustling districts of the city, famous for its abundant shopping, dining and entertainment.
Right opposite the Y-D Square is Toronto’s most visited attraction, the Eaton Centre. Modelled after Europe’s indoor gallerias, the Centre’s natural light, interior space and over 350 shops, restaurants and services draw millions of visitors every year.
If you can tear yourself away from the fabulous shopping, you’ll find lots of other things to do in Downtown Yonge. You can go to the theatre or catch a movie or attend a concert right on Yonge-Dundas Square or in the nearby historic Massey Hall. And there is no shortage of restaurants, bars, pubs and coffee shops, ranging from quick and convenient take-out places to elegant, upscale establishments that make you want to linger long into the evening.
