Open Streets Toronto

In the last 10 years, Canada’s cultural capital has undergone an architectural renaissance. World-renowned architects Daniel Libeskind and Frank Gehry have left their imprint on the city alongside monumental works by resident firms Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg and Diamond and Schmitt.

Explore the Bloor Street Cultural District, Philosopher’s Walk, and University of Toronto downtown campus, where we emerge in the dynamic Medical Discovery District, seeing how the city and the campus flow into and out of one another while referencing the different periods and styles of buildings along the route. Learn about the “starchitects” and their innovative designs that are hidden in plain view on Bloor Street West and on the University of Toronto downtown campus. Our excursion concludes at the Art Gallery of Ontario at Dundas and McCaul Street.

Join On the Town Tours for complimentary walking tours of the Cultural-University-Discovery District at Open Streets Toronto, Sunday, August 17 and 31. All tours begin at 10 am and are approximately 1-1/2 hrs. long.

Meet at: 135 St. George Street, in front of the York Club, at the corner of St. George and Bloor

3rd annual Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival

Steam Whistle Brewing for the third year hosts the Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival in their own backyard for what Toronto Life Magazine named as one of the top 5 beer festivals to attend in Toronto. The independent craft brewer will transform Roundhouse Park into a great outdoor festival where long-time beer fans and those newly discovering the craft beer movement can sample & savour offerings from local producers. From 12noon to 7pm the weekend of August 9th-10th, attendees will be able to pair flavourful ales, crisp lagers, seasonal and experimental beers with fare from gourmet food trucks, all within a park setting while local indie bands entertain.

“We’ve been overwhelmed with such positive feedback about the Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival that we’ve made it bigger and better to showcase even more local craft beer talent without losing the original vibe of the festival,” explains Tim McLaughlin, Steam Whistle Brand Manager and festival organizer. “Our goal is to create a relaxed atmosphere for beer exploration and education. It’s just such a great event combining good people, good eats and great beer.”

The festival, which continues to grow in popularity, expands this year both in space and in attractions. This year patrons can expect more beer varieties with 20 different craft brewers, showcasing the re-emergence of craft beer and a greater diversity of crowd pleasing food trucks. New editions to the craft beer roaster include Railway City Brewing, Highlander Brew Co. and Side Launch Brewing to name a few. The festival setup provides plenty of room to linger and learn from Ontario Craft Brewers.

The festival showcases beers from the association of Ontario Craft Brewers, who have a passion to re-kindle and keep alive the spirit of traditional brewing. Independent ownership, smaller batches, artisanal styles, quality ingredients, all-natural and undiluted beers are hallmarks of their Brewing Philosophy & Standards. www.ontariocraftbrewers.com

The Roundhouse Craft Beer Festival will benefit the Toronto Rail Heritage Museum in the adjacent Roundhouse Park, just outside the doors of host, Steam Whistle Brewing – 255 Bremner Blvd. Toronto. Phone (416) 362-2337 ext 246.

Sampling glasses can be purchased in advance for $20 at www.craftbeerfest.ca or for $25 at the door. Beer will only be served in the official glasses with beer sampling tickets costing $1 (glasses can be re-used on the 2nd day of the festival). Food can be purchased with cash.
