National Zoo Keeper Week

In support of National Zoo Keeper Week, Toronto City Council has proclaimed Sunday, July 21 through Friday, July 26, 2013 as “Zoo Keeper Week” in the City of Toronto! The Toronto Zoo, your local Southern Ontario Chapter of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, is proud to invite you to a week long event celebrating National Zoo Keeper Week. This event will offer rare insight into the unique roles the Zoo Keeper plays within the Toronto Zoo. Come on out and catch a surprise Meet The Keeper Talk, see the tools of the trade, learn about keeper conservation initiatives, and meet some of the WILD animals. Also, be sure to watch the crazy antics of zoo staff at 12:00pm to 1:00pm, daily, as they compete in special games that mimic zoo keeping work.

Beaches International Jazz Festival

This year marks the 25th anniversary of Toronto’s highly anticipated Beaches International Jazz Festival, taking place July 19-28, 2013. In honour of this momentous occasion, an incredible musical line-up and exciting new activities have been planned.

The Festival unfolds each summer in the heart of the lakeside community, and is a top attraction for local residents and tourists alike. What began as a small, two-day event by president and producer Lido Chilelli in 1989 has now evolved into a massive ten-day celebration of music, with over one million people in attendance. Presently North America’s largest free festival, Beaches Jazz attracts tourists from across the globe each year and has been named the top free jazz festival in the world by MSN.com.

Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto

TD – IRIE Music Festival

July 13 – August 5, 2013. The IRIE Music Festival (IRIEFEST) is a multi-day, music and arts festival that will celebrate its 11th anniversary in 2013. IRIEFEST will take place in two of Ontario’s largest cities: Toronto and Mississauga and will present artists in the areas of music, dance, spoken word and visual arts. The festival will also include an awards event, a greening initiative and an historic component. IRIEFEST Toronto will take place Nathan Phillips Square, August 2 to 5. IRIEFEST Mississauga will take place on July 13th and 14th at Mississauga Celebration Square.

Sunday Serenades

Every Sunday beginning July 7 and running to August 18 – from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. – you can dance under the stars at Mel Lastman Square in the Sunday Serenades free outdoor concert series. The Great Ontario Salmon Derby

July 6 – August 24, 2013. Sponsored by the Toronto Sun, the 17th Annual Great Ontario Salmon Derby is North America’s largest freshwater fishing derby and takes place in the Canadian waters of Lake Ontario attracting participants from Florida, Arizona, Michigan and other US States. They also have participants from England, Germany & Italy on a regular basis. The Derby boasts an average participation of 21,000 people annually over a 50 day period. Fishermen/women compete for various weekly prizes including cash, tackle, rods, reels and for the heaviest salmon caught every week – a 2013 Toyota Matrix! The winner of the overall Derby wins an exciting Grand Prize package including a 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport, a fishing trip for two and a celebration dinner. The event is climaxed with a Fish-off for the 70 prize winners preceding the Awards Ceremony, September 14, 2013 allowing them to win a further $5,000 in cash prizes.
