WE ARE PAN AM: One-Year Countdown to the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games is a free two-day festival is taking place from Friday, July 11 to Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Toronto’s Nathan Phillips Square.
Friday, July 11
PANAMANIA, sponsored by CIBC, kicks off at noon. Get ready to sing and dance to the invigorating sounds of Trinidadian soca star Machel Montano, or strap on your dancing shoes and learn how to salsa with lessons from Salsa on St. Clair dancers. Don’t miss Dwayne D’Bandit Pitt and Dr. Jay de Socaprince who will keep the party rocking when they take the stage on Friday night. Want more? Take part in a variety of Pan Am/Parapan Am sports: basketball, soccer, wheelchair rugby and sitting volleyball, and be one of the first to see the Cisco TORONTO 2015 Countdown Clock.
Saturday, July 12
Meet multiple-gold medallists Rosie MacLennan (trampoline), Heather Moyse (rugby sevens, cycling and bobsleigh), Benoît Huot (aquatics) and other athletes as they participate in sport demonstrations and mini-competitions. Toronto Raptors star Greivis Vasquez will be in the square to give coaching tips on shooting three pointers and how to improve your game, and make sure to take your photo with PACHI the porcupine, the official mascot of the TORONTO 2015 Games. You won’t be able to sit still when Cuban salsa legends Los Van Van hit the stage, and end the night with a bang when fireworks fill the sky.
