Tom Eccles is Executive Director of the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College. He was the Director of the Public Art Fund in New York City from 1996-2005. Since joining Bard, he oversaw the construction of the Hessel Museum of Art, which opened in November 2006. He co-curated the inaugural exhibition of the Marieluise Hessel Collection, Wrestle, and co-commissioned the permanent installation of Olafur Eliasson’s Parliament of Reality on the grounds of Bard. Eccles will discuss the founding of the Hessel Museum of Art the building of its collection as a teaching resource to encourage experimental approaches to the presentation of contemporary art.
