Mendelssohn Scottish Symphony
May 15 and May 17. Celebrate the Victoria Day long weekend by listening to Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony, a masterwork dedicated to Queen Victoria and her husband Albert. The work was inspired by the composer’s 1829 visit to Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh.
Come for: Mendelssohn crystallized in music everything from the country’s misty landscapes and sprightly folk dances, to its solemn processions and heroic myths.
And more: TSO Principal Harp Heidi Van Hoesen Gorton steps forward to demonstrate her versatility and expressiveness in a Harp Concerto that combines percussive Latin rhythms and flashing orchestral colours.
