Matchbox Twenty and Goo Goo Dolls
Matchbox Twenty hails from Orlando, Florida and became a unit in 1991. The band quickly gained momentum and international fame and recognition in 1996 with their debut Yourself or Someone Like You. Lead singer Rob Thomas has a graceful, yet velvet voice, which can be heard on many of their singles. They have reached multiplatinum sales with their releases. Thomas was also featured on the Santana comeback mega-hit “Smooth” in 1999. Some of the band’s successful singles include “3 AM,” “Unwell,” and “Push”.
The Goo Goo Dolls trace thier origins to Buffalo, New York, where they became a group in 1986. Their song “Iris” which was featured in City of Angels soundtrack became an instant hit and was on heavy rotation on commercial radio upon its release. It was so ubiquitous it also became an ear worm. The Dolls were the only band to have three songs chart on the Billboard’s “Top 100 Pop Songs 1992-2012″.
