The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir opens its 12/13 Season (its 118th season) on November 14th with Carl Orff’s modern masterpiece Carmina Burana. The Choir will be joined by Toronto’s dynamic TorQ Percussion Quartet in the great acoustics and setting of Koerner Hall. In this entertaining program, voice and percussion combine in three works. The full TMC, TorQ Percussion Quartet, two pianists and soloists will take the audience into the earthy and vivid imagery of medieval life in Beuren, Germany with Orff’s popular Carmina Burana. The TMC’s full symphonic sound and clear articulation is a perfect match for Orff’s dramatic story telling. Also on the program, British composer Jonathan Dove’s choral song cycle The Passing of the Year commissioned by the London Symphony Orchestra in 2000, and contemporary American composer Eric Whitacre’s Cloudburst for double choir, piano and percussion. Whitacre is one of today’s most popular composers of choral music. More details on the concert, including musical clips and program notes, can be found on the TMC website. www.tmchoir.org
