Super Racefan’s Guide: Everything You Need to Know to Get the Most Out of Honda Indy Toronto
The roar of the engines, the cheer of the crowd, the rush of pure heart-pumping adrenaline – is there anything more satisfying for a racing fan?
The Honda Indy Toronto is part of the iconic IndyCar Series, and takes place every year in downtown Toronto. Featuring a 2.84 km (1.755 mile) course, this circuit winds its way through and around Exhibition Place grounds, with Lake Shore Boulevard as its backstretch.
Get ready for the rev of engines this June, as massive off-road trucks, sleek exotic cars, and – of course – classic race cars take to the streets of Toronto.
Exotic Car Racing Enthralls
In 2014, the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin made its debut, featuring semi-professional drivers speeding down one of North America’s largest single-make series.
Off-Road Vehicles Excite
Another crowd-pleaser, Robby Gordon’s SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks rip, roar, and fly twenty feet off the ground for the third year in a row at the Toronto Honda Indy. Massive off-road trucks racing over high-flying jumps? That’s sure to get any racing fan’s heart pumping!
Stars Are Born at The Mazda Road to Indy
The Honda Indy Toronto also plays host to several Mazda Road to Indy races. The Road to Indy is a series of races developed for budding IndyCar racers.
First off, the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda challenges entry-level drivers in a professional, open-wheel training ground. Afterwards, these future-IndyCar-champions race in the Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires, credited with developing the careers of more than a few IndyCar Series stars. From there, drivers move onto Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, the final step before the all-important leap to the Verizon IndyCar Series itself.
The Main Event Burns Up the Circuit
Exotic cars and flying trucks are great, but the main event – the one every Honda Indy fan waits for – is the full length IndyCar race.
The Honda Indy Toronto plays host to this headlining race, and fans get to see all their favourite drivers burn up the TO circuit!
Pre-Race Ceremonies Get the Party Started
What’s the best way to rev up a crowd of Indy fans? An adrenaline-pumping pre-race ceremony, of course.
Before every IndyCar race, drivers are introduced on stage, before making their way around the track in a Honda Ridgeline to greet their enthusiastic fans. After the Canadian and US national anthems are sung, it’s time for the celebrity grand marshal to say those famous words – “Drivers, start your engines!”
The FireFit Championships Serve Up the “Toughest Two Minutes in Sports”
There’s a reason the FireFit Championships are known as the “Toughest Two Minutes in Sports,” and it has a little something to do with those grueling, real-life firefighting tasks performed in fifty pounds of protective clothing.
On Saturday, these seriously fast and fit men and women compete in the Individual Competition; then on Sunday, they’ll tough it out in a fast-paced knockout tournament. Come cheer on these brave local firefighters as they challenge the course and each other!
Success Is Sweet at Victory Circle
You’ve watched every minute of the heart-pumping race – now experience victory for yourself!
At Victory Circle, success is sweet, even for the spectators. Come and experience these world-class drivers’ triumph as they claim their first place prize at Victory Circle.
Honda World Immerses You in Indy
Immerse yourself in Indy at Honda World – this massive, interactive fan area features vehicle displays, games, activities, and more. Afterwards, go on a multimedia journey through the fascinating racing Heritage of Honda, and get the little ones in on the action at a hands-on training lesson with the Junior Red Riders Program.
The INDYCAR Paddock Gets You up Close and Personal
Itching to get up close and personal with IndyCar crews and mechanics? The Paddock gives you your chance – this exclusive on-site area provides access to actual indycars and team mechanical trailers. The best part? You may very well run into a driver, so have those cameras and headshots ready!
The Honda Pit Stop Challenge Tests Your Skills
Want to find out if you can compete against the pros? Stop by the Honda Pit Stop Challenge to test your speed and agility, and see if you’ve got what it takes to change a real race car tire in record time.
The best part? There’s a prize for the fastest time – so get practicing (just not in dad’s Chevy!)
The Food and Drink
There’s No Shortage of Tasty Fare…
At the Honda Indy, it’s all about the racing, but that doesn’t mean that fans go hungry.
Forget about bringing a bagged lunch – at the Honda Indy Toronto, there’ll be more than enough food and drink to keep the hungriest (and thirstiest) of racing fans satisfied.
Sample a variety of food and drink from vendors serving up old favourites and new treats, and get your fill of food truck fare from the multitude of gourmet food trucks on-site, including Pizza Pizza, Hank Daddy’s Barbecue, Smoke’s Poutinerie, and more.
…Or Delicious Craft Beer
After feasting on all the food you can handle, wash it all down with some delicious craft beer at the Honda Indy Craft Beerfest, taking place across the entire event site.
Slake your thirst with some classic Ontario craft beer from the likes of Muskoka and Amsterdam Breweries, and don’t worry about wandering off – the entire grounds are fully licensed!
