In 2011, the Toronto region welcomed 9.8 million overnight visitors from over 200 different countries.


  • Toronto welcomed 6.4 million overnight visitors from Canada, 2.0 million from the U.S., and 1.4 million from overseas.
  • Visitors to Toronto spent a combined $4.6 billion in the destination.
  • Overseas visitors increased by 6% in 2011, making it the fastest growing market segment. China (+25%), Australia (+20%), India (+19%), and Brazil (+10%) were the fastest growing individual markets.
  • Visitors to the Toronto region support 227,600 people who work in tourism and hospitality.
  • In 2011, 9.18 million hotel room nights were sold, the most ever for the region.
